Next, head to Sepilok to visit conservation centres for endangered species in Sabah such as the Orangutan and Bornean Sun Bear. The program will then take you to the Kinabatangan Floodplains to stay at a boutique eco lodge where you will go on river safaris in search of some of the most amazing animals in Sabah. The Family Fun Promo will then conclude at a hidden island paradise located so close to Kota Kinabalu city for you to experience the beach, snorkelling, sea kayaking and more.

Kota Kinabalu is a coastal city in Malaysian Borneo and known for its bustling markets, modern boardwalks, beaches and waterfront esplanade. Upon arrival, your guide will meet you at the arrival hall and transfer you to The Jesselton Hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing or exploring the city.
Pick-up at your hotel at 9.30am and drive for 2 hours to Sayap Village, stopping at points of interests along the way. Meet your host and check-in upon arrival and enjoy lunch at the local homestay with your host family. After lunch, your guide and host will introduce you to the ways of life in a local Dusun village. The Dusuns are the biggest ethnic group in Sabah, most living subsistence lifestyles in terms of agricultural farming which includes rice, fruit and vegetable plantation. Spend the day exploring the village farmlands and pick your own fruit (coconut, pineapple, tarap and other local seasonal fruit) to enjoy fresh or bring back with you to your homestay where you can learn how to cook a local dish, make fruit jam or ferment it. A traditional Dusun dinner will be served at your host’s home in the evening.
Wake up early and join your host family and local villagers in the rubber plantations where you will learn about tapping rubber and see if you can master the skill. Return back to your homestay where you will enjoy breakfast and prepare a day pack for a nature hike to explore the nearby primary montane rainforest.
You will travel a short distance from the village to the Sayap Substation that lies along the boundary of Kinabalu National Park. With an extensive network of trails, this hidden oasis allows you to experience montane forest, an abundance of bird life, and a refreshing swim along the cascading Kemantis Waterfall that flows through the substation area. A picnic lunch will be served along with some spare time to soak up the serenity before returning back to Sayap Village.
Upon your return to your homestay you will learn how to catch locally farmed freshwater fish using the traditional methods of the Dusun people. In the evening, enjoy another scrumptious dinner and farewell ceremony with your host.
Wake up early and enjoy morning breakfast cooked by your host. Depart to Kota Kinabalu at 9.00 am and expect to arrive by 11 am and transfer straight to the airport.
Take a 50-minute flight to Sandakan. Upon arrival, your driver will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to Sepilok Nature Resort, a quaint collection of wooden chalets surrounding a lake set in an impressive landscaped area of manicured lawns and hills with private verandahs to every timber chalets. Check in and retire for the night.
After breakfast, at 8:15am walk across to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to witness the 10:00am morning feeding of the orphaned baby and adult orangutans which were rescued from logging sites, plantations and illegal hunting, and are trained to survive again in the wild. From there, walk over to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, a wildlife conservation and research centre for the world’s smallest bear only found in Southeast Asia region.
At 11:30am, you will be transferred to the Sandakan Yacht Club jetty for your 2-hour boat ride to the Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort, a boutique lodge situated on the banks of the Kinabatangan River. At 340 miles long, the Kinabatangan River has the highest concentration of fauna in Borneo, giving you the opportunity to see some of the local residents, including orangutans, pygmy elephants, hornbills and proboscis monkeys.
Upon arrival, settle into your chalet. At 4:00pm, go for a dusk river cruise to search for wildlife along the river. You will spend 2 hours on the river before returning to the lodge for dinner. After dinner, you have the option to head out for a short night walk in search of nocturnal residents of the forest. Some of the wildlife to be seen are civet cats, owls, frogs, snakes, flat-headed cats and much more.
Watch the sunrise during an early morning river safari cruise. Back on land, stop in a local village where you will be treated to a home-cooked breakfast and afterward visit a local forest restoration project site and participate in tree planting. Learn about the community effort in their forest restoration project. Return to the lodge for lunch and some time to rest.
At 4:00pm, go for another river cruise searching for wildlife and watch the last of the sun’s rays disappearing below the horizon on your way back. After dinner, embark on another night walk or take an optional night cruise.
Wake up early for breakfast, and check out after breakfast for your journey back to Sandakan. Transfer to the airport for a 50-minute flight back to Kota Kinabalu, and head to Gayana Marine Resort. Spend the afternoon seaside, snorkeling, kayaking, or going for a jungle walk.
Spend the day relaxing at the beach or exploring the island. In the evening, staff from the resort will be taking the kids for activities, while the parents have a nice dinner seaside on their own.
After breakfast and a relaxing morning, check out and depart to the airport for your flight back home.
