2D1N Ulu Jungle Exploration

Situated along the misty rolling foothills of Crocker Range, lies an off-the-beaten track jungle site called Ulu Sawatan. This scarcely explored 10 acre of rainforest takes about 70 to 90 minutes drive from the hustle and bustle of Kota Kinabalu City. Tailored towards nature enthusiasts, this adventure is suited for those who have innate curiosity towards learning about native plants, its various medical and culinary uses and jungle survival skills.

Accommodation

You will sleep in stretcher hammocks with mosquito net and a blanket at Camp Dalit – a small and basic camp with shower and western toilet facilities.

Food

You will be accompanied by a knowledgeable on-site guide & porter during your overnight program.

Facilities & Services

You will be accompanied by a knowledgeable Sticky Rice Travel nature guide who will be supported by on-site ranger & porter during your overnight program.

Our group size for this jungle program is 1:8.

We can also accommodate private guide or specialist guide eg. Birding guide requests.

Day 1

At 8am, we transfer approximately 70 to 90 minutes from your hotel in Kota Kinabalu City to Ulu Sawatan. Upon arrival, there will be a familiarization and safety briefing followed by equipment allocation for your overnight stay. Along the 1 kilometer trek towards Dalit Camp, you will be introduced to the rainforest as you bid farewell to modernization for a night. You will learn about various wildlife and native plant life calling Ulu Sawatan its home. Many plants can be used for medicinal and culinary purposes, your guide will point them out to you!

Lunch will be served followed by a short introduction and hammock set up upon your arrival at the camp. Sip hot coffee or tea whilst listening to cicadas play their tune as the sunsets over the Crocker Range valley. After dinner, proceed on a night walk and rainforest observation in search of nocturnal interests in the jungle. Overnight Dalit Camp in stretcher hammock.

Day 2

Be woken up by early birds chirping away. After breakfast, take down your camp and pack up for the journey back. As you make your way to the starting point, your guide will point out other interesting flora and fauna he/she finds along the way. Lunch will be had enroute.

At 1.30PM, your transportation will be waiting for you at the starting point to send you back to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu City.

What to Bring?

Good sturdy footwear suitable for trekking (local rubber shoes recommended), waterproof jacket/poncho, personal medication, head torch/handheld torch and spare batteries, personal clothing (long sleeves & pants/trousers recommended), wash kit & dry/waterproof bags, sleeping bag , rucksack (at least 40 to 60 litre capacity), water bottle (minimum 1 litre recommended)
