Nestled amongst the hillsides of Bengoh Dam, a man made water body that serves as the water supply for Kuching, rests the unique Bayan Atuh Eco Retreat. The open-air sleeping arrangements at Bayan Atuh are basic but comfortable offering you an opportunity stargaze at night and awake to a mist shrouded view above the clouds in the morning. The property is limited to 20 people ensuring an intimate experience during your stay.
Enjoy home-cooked meals experiencing a taste of the local cuisine prepared at the lodge eating in a communal setting. Vegetarians and special diets catered for.
Restroom and shower facilities are communal, along with sleeping arrangements and meals are eaten together. This is a family home giving visitors the genuine opportunity to interact with the hosts and the local village. Power is supplied by generator.
You will be accompanied by a nature guide from the meeting point at Padawan who will stay with you for the duration of your trip.
Pick up at 1pm from specified location in Kuching driving 30 minutes to the town of Padawan where you will meet your guide and source yourself a pair of a rubber hiking shoes (adidas kampung). After meeting with your guide the journey will continue to the gates of Bengoh Dam about another 20 minutes drive.
Once you reach the dam gates you will transfer to a small boat to complete the next leg of the journey, a 20 minute boat ride across the reservoir where you can take in the calm, lush surroundings. You will soon reach the foothills of Kampung Sting, a resettled Bidayuh Village.
Carrying your pack you will now make the walk uphill to the homestay where you will finally be rewarded with stunning views of Bengoh Dam. This walk can take half an hour to an hour depending on your fitness level. Settle in to relax and enjoy the rest of the afternoon viewing sunset from the viewing platform. Dinner will be served in the evening.
Your day will start with an early rise to catch the stunning sunrise over Bengoh Dam. Enjoy the view of the mist covered dam in the early morning light as the surrounding area begins the day.
After breakfast pack your bag as the adventure continues with a day of hiking to Kling and Susung Waterfalls. The walk will take you through a mosaic of secondary forest, fruit orchards, cocoa and pepper plantations. You will soon reach the three tiered Kling Curtain Falls enjoying a refreshing dip whilst your guide prepares lunch.
Enjoy lunch by the falls taking in the lushious surroundings. Continue to Susung Waterfall to take some photos and a refreshing swim. Make the return hike back to the homestay to relax and enjoy afternoon high tea before dinner is served
Start your day early to observe sunrise over Bengoh Dam or enjoy the sleep in. Once breakfast is served you will take a short trek to nearby hills that provide views along the valley and out to Kuching. On a clear day you can see all the way to the South China Sea. Return to the homestay to begin the journey back to Kuching stopping for lunch along the way.
