As our lady boss, Jess, often reminds us, “Too much time in the office makes one a dull and boring person.”
So, the Stickies team decided to get out of the office and take a weekend road trip up north to the tip of Borneo, Kudat for some much-needed time away from our desks and fun in the sun.
Everyone arrived at the office on a Friday morning in high spirits as we prepared to pack our stuff into vans and left Kota Kinabalu on a 3-hour drive through Tuaran, Kota Belud, and Kota Marudu. As we journeyed further up, we could see the change of scenery from city-scape to more lush greens with Mount Kinabalu occasionally peeking through passing clouds in the distance.
Several bathroom breaks and snack pit stops later, it was only time before we noticed the drop in our cellular connections – a clear indication that we were indeed nearing Tommy’s Place, our accommodation for the weekend.
Many wasted no time and hit the beach immediately after check-in. Whilst some preferred just hanging out with a couple of beers in hand, the rest chose to either take a dip in the waters or played several rounds of frisbee on the beach. Complemented by a blazing sunset and some sweet tunes on the guitar by our talented musicians, it made for the perfect start to the weekend.
Just before wrapping the weekend up, some of the Stickies even dropped by the Tip of Borneo (Simpang Mengayau) to catch a glimpse of the sunrise in all its glory from the northernmost tip of Borneo island and witness the spectacular natural phenomenon that is the obvious split between the South China Sea and Sulu Sea.
And just like that, Stickies weekend escape to Kudat slowly came to a bittersweet end. The trip to Tommy’s Place was a fantastic way for new team members to get to know current Stickies, build strong relationships amongst each other, and not only create meaningful adventures for our guests, but ourselves as well.
